Family Lawyer

Family Law, With a Different Perspective

Jenny focuses her practice on family law, helping clients navigate separation, parenting, support, property division, and other important family law matters.

Her decision to practice family law is deeply personal. As the daughter of an immigrant mother, Jenny saw firsthand the uncertainty and vulnerability that can come with navigating the legal system during a separation. She understands how difficult it can be to make important decisions when you are trying to understand the law, protect your family, and figure out what comes next. That experience shaped the lawyer she wanted to become: someone who makes the law easier to understand and gives clients a clear path forward.

Jenny has practiced at a boutique family law firm, a mid-sized full-service firm in downtown Vancouver, and one of Western Canada's largest family law firms. Her experience includes negotiation, settlement, family law agreements, and litigation. She has appeared before both the Provincial Court and Supreme Court of British Columbia and has represented clients at various stages of their family law matters.

Strategic When It Matters. Collaborative When It Makes Sense.

Jenny does not believe that every family law matter should be approached the same way.

Many matters can be resolved without going to trial, and Jenny's practice reflects that. The majority of her matters resolve outside of court and prior to trial. As a trained Collaborative Family Lawyer, she helps clients explore constructive solutions that can reduce conflict, cost, and uncertainty while protecting the things that matter most.

When litigation is necessary, Jenny is ready for it. She prepares thoroughly, develops a clear strategy, and advocates firmly for her clients. Her goal is not conflict for the sake of conflict. It is achieving a result that serves her client's interests and supports their future.

The Client Comes First

Family law is personal. Jenny knows that clients are not simply bringing her a legal problem. They are often making decisions about their children, their finances, their home, and their future.

She takes the time to understand the bigger picture before recommending a course of action. Her advice is clear and candid, and she makes sure clients understand their rights, options, and responsibilities.

Preparation is central to Jenny's practice. She believes clients are best positioned to make good decisions when they understand the law and know what to expect. She works closely with her clients throughout the process so they feel informed, prepared, and supported.

Jenny also recognizes that the best solutions sometimes involve professionals beyond the legal system. Where appropriate, she works collaboratively with financial professionals, mental health professionals, parenting professionals, and others whose expertise can help clients reach informed and sustainable resolutions.

A Commitment to Access to Justice

Jenny's commitment to access to justice began before she became a lawyer. Before law school, she worked at Legal Aid BC, assisting individuals facing significant legal challenges involving family law, child protection, immigration, and criminal law. That experience gave her an early understanding of the barriers people can face when trying to navigate the legal system.

Her commitment continued throughout law school. At Thompson Rivers University, Jenny founded and served as President of the TRU Access to Justice Law Club and co-founded the TRU Business Law Society, where she served as an Executive Advisor. She also worked as a Research Assistant on the National Self-Represented Litigants Project (NSLRP) West.

Jenny's interest in public-interest work extended beyond traditional legal practice. During the COVID-19 pandemic, she worked with other law students to develop applications designed to help individuals access COVID-19 assistance programs while in law school. She also conducted her own original research, supported by the Undergraduate Research Experience Award Program at Thompson Rivers University.

Jenny's dedication to public-interest work has been recognized through the Law Foundation of BC Public Interest Award.
